Composers Concordance finishes their Comp/Lit Festival with Humbug Jitterbug, the CompCord Big Band performing compositions influenced by the Jitterbug dance craze and the avenue where music and literature meet on Monday, November 29 at 7:30pm ET at City Winery.
The CompCord Big Band takes the genre of big band music to untrodden destinations, combining what one recognizes as the standard swing sound with contemporary compositional techniques and bending traditional rules with atypical arrangements.
Featured compositions include the world premiere of Gene Pritsker’s Humbug Jitterbug, Melanie Mitrano/Gerson Galante’s Merrily Christmas featuring vocalist Melanie Mitrano, and Prisker's arrangement of Louis Jordan's classic Doug The Jitterbug that will feature drummer great Gerry Brown and a stellar cast of trumpet players including jazz legend Valery Ponomarev and piccolo trumpet virtuoso Franz Hackl.
